8. Collective Redundancies

A collective redundancy situation arises where an employer proposes to dismiss as redundant twenty or more employees at one establishment within a ninety-day period. The obligations may also apply even when the Company intends to offer alternative employment on different terms and conditions to some or all of the employees, with the result that the number actually dismissed is less than twenty. A Company proposing to make collective redundancies is required to notify the Redundancy Payments Service by completing a Form HR1 in advance of starting the process.
